Tolman received praise for her portrayal of Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair said that Tolman "calmly and assuredly stole" the show. The actress won the Critics' Choice Television Award as Best Supporting Actress for a Movie/Miniseries, and was also nominated for Best Actress at both the Emmy Awards & Golden Globes for her role. Tolman's guest role in The Mindy Project as romance novelist Abby Berman for two episodes that premiered on the same day. In 2015, she was the role of a support of Michael Dougherty s comedy horror movie Krampus. Tolman was turned down for roles in supporting characters like best friends, parents, spouses and even husbands after her first big role on Fargo. She was looking for an unusual role. Tolman's role on ABC Downward Dog was based on the Animal Media Group Web Series. After one season, it was canceled. Tolman was the main character on ABC's drama series Emergence which debuted on September 24, 2019. It was cancelled on May 21st, 2020 following only one season despite "pretty good" viewership, according to Tolman.
